A typical VIN number is necessarily divided into several parts, namely:
the WMI block includes 3 characters and is designed to inform the user about the manufacturer of the vehicle;
VDS – there are 6 characters in this block with information about the car itself displayed in them. Moreover, in many models, the extreme symbol is used here as a protection against deliberate interrupting of the number;
VIS - a block of 8 characters contains additional and more detailed information about a particular vehicle.

In the first three symbols of the WMI, a full description of the car manufacturer is given. The first character indicates the geographical territory of manufacture, the second character (or 2 at once) is the country code with production facilities. The third one points to a specific trademark. This marker is necessarily assigned to each company by the local automobile association.
Here, the decryption of the VIN code makes it possible to get information about a specific car model. Although there are often a lot of manufacturers assigned 6 characters for this. Therefore, many companies simply fill in the free signs with zeros. The first 3 digits indicate the modification of the body, the existing power plant and a specific model.
The following characters indicate the information that a certain manufacturer considered it necessary to include in the identifier. Often we are talking about the vehicle series, the maximum weight, the type of chassis and the type of transmission, as well as the format of the brake mechanism and so on.
Pay attention. Each automaker puts its own codes in the VDS. To get more accurate information on this block, it is necessary to study the information of a specific company.
The decoding of the VIN code of the car carried out according to the last 8 characters makes it possible to find out information about the release of the vehicle. The first sign hides the year of the machine's release from the conveyor, the second symbol marks a specific production facility, and the remaining signs are the serial number of the vehicle. This combination is absolutely uninformative for an ordinary car owner, but it is simply impossible to do without the number itself in a number of situations.
